Oh 2017, how you've been good to me so far! This year, I have many design clients and I have never loved them more than this year. 2016 was absolutely lovely and we had many, many, many beautiful weddings. But, scrolling though my portfolio of weddings from 2016, all I saw was pink after pink after pink. don't get me wrong, I love pink and blush and all shades of course, but how many blush and gold weddings can one possibly have? I think this year, we are about to see more bold jewel tones, emphasis on different textures and even putting our precious metals on the back burner. Gone are the vintage weddings as styles have turned more towards mid century mod and modern eclectic. So let's say buh-bye to blush, to rose gold and welcome what i think will be the hottest trends for the new year!
COLOR.
2017 will bring in bold and unlikely color combinations. Salmon, funky yellows, mixes of green hues and navy will be the focal point of wedding color palettes. Mix these colors with neutrals to bring a blend of softness such as ivory, taupe, clay and gray. With this year's Pantone color being greenery, also expect to see floral trends leaning towards more topiary than floral. Minimalism is also making a big statement in the bridal industry and expect to see it done beautifully in the new year!
STRONGLY THEMED WEDDINGS.
And no, we don't mean Star Wars or dressing up like its the zombie apocalypse.....
Think more like a tropical theme, dessert theme or even a bewitching theme. Couples are also totally making up their own themes. Like a mystical jungle disco party like The Venue Report put on for their company party! You can make it sound as crazy and as cheesy as you like, but adding fun finds and small details to your otherwise "normal" wedding decor can make for a beautiful and unique affair. But skip the costumes....
or don't!

SETTING THE TABLE.
For us it has and always will be how the table is set. This year we will see a bigger emphasis on patterns. A bold salad plate set upon a simple dinner plate or platter and a contrasting patterned napkin is perfection. Of course, we can't leave out the glassware! What is an incredible party without alcohol? Mixing in detailed glasses filled with curated cocktails is all the rage and for good reason. Get creative with your signature sips and make them camera worthy1
THE SPACE SAYS IT ALL.
Couples are opting to select a space that doesn't require much decor. Save on centerpieces and splurge on that extra desirable spot that will set the scene for your entire day. A backdrop is what shows most in your photos as centerpieces (although we sure love them) requires more close ups to capture the beauty. Whether you want somethig naturally beautiful like a lush garden, scenic mountain top or oceanfront, something urban and linear or a venue that is just totally off the walls artistic, your space will be sure to wow your guests more than flowers.
Of course, we still give you permission to go all out and add some more jazz :)

NO MORE ARM WORKOUTS.
Sorry ladies, but over sized bouquets are on their way out! You've been sweating for the wedding enough so no need to work those arm muscles more on the wedding day by hoisting a gigantic bushel of flowers everywhere you go. Smaller bouquets are making a come back and they can be just as pretty and sweet as their larger counterparts. Plus, you get to show off more of your gorgeous gown, lovely physique and beautiful face! If you still want a dramatic effect, add a focal point bloom. One large blossom arranged around smaller, complimenting flowers will still give you a big impact. Clustering is also coming back into the wedding scene. For some time, the loose, wild bouquet style was a hit but a more modern version is coming into play. You'll still see some fly aways and mixed blooms of shape, color and texture, but again, a cluster of specialty blooms will bring drama to your arm candy.
Another trend to watch for is garland or shared bouquets and new ways to wear florals. Arm bands or floral necklaces, or even florals pinned to the shaping of your dress have become a new must have.. Like the ladies above, they can walk down the aisle all together, holding something that connects them. Afterwards, repurpose as a centerpiece or accent to your guestbook or cake table. Another trend that we are working with right now is contrasting florals. I have a current client who hired me to design her serenity blue and peach wedding. Her venue is set by the ocean and has beautiful amber colored wood and modern feel. Blues in florals can be tricky so we have to get creative to get into the color family she's looking for. To play off the ocean, we're incorporating subtle hints of deep navy blue mixed with the light and bright blue of virginia blubells, delphinums and hydrangeas to really contrast and stand out. Peach is also a great example to get a rich and bold color family. By incorporating florals of similar shade such as oranges, pinks and buttery yellows, it makes her light peach florals really pop! So excited to share the final wedding photos with you all!
Another way to make your flowers shine individually is to pair them with their contrasting counterparts. Do you all remember the color wheel? We're not saying orange and purple have to come together to create a real show stopper, but using the color wheel to use monochromatic hue pairings, like mentioned above with different shades of blue, or even opposite spectrums like the photo below. The deep purples paired with the light pinks and sunny greens just makes our hearts smile.

HANGING ELEMENTS.
In the past, hanging florals or chandeliers were reserved for the more over the top weddings. Now, we've seen that hanging elements can even be put in place of centerpieces, freeing up table space for your guests and having clear lines of sight! Hanging greens and florals truly are a statement piece and you can go as full or as minimal as you want and still achieve a very dramatic wow factor. Green is the new white wedding and couples are opting for neutral and natural spaces and decorate with greenery for a subtle yet classy look.
BE A TOTAL BADASS.
Your wedding day is exactly what you want it to be. It can be a reflection of who you are or it can be a reflection of who you want to be for a day. Just never compromise style. Be a total badass and own your wedding. If you want to wear chucks, find an incredible fresh pair and rock them. If you want to wear a leather jacket, wear the hell out of it. Or maybe you want to wear a gold sequin dress and ballerina shoes. DO IT! No one says you have to wear a white dress and look like cinderella. It works for some, it doesn't work for everyone. Make it yours and never look back. The best weddings are those that aren't cookie cutter. So have fun and give traditions the peace sign.
SHOW THEM YOUR (FUN)NY SIDE.
Who said weddings are stuffy and proper? HAVE FUN! I can't tell you how many of my couples say,
"We don't really want a formal wedding, we just want it to feel like a party" But I don't think very many of them know what that means. If it's going to be a party, don't have a formal sit down dinner, or fancy candelabra centerpieces. You have to create a fun vibe, get humorous, bring in some personality and show your guests that this is no ordinary "wedding". Tell them it's okay to dance and drink a little too much. Tell them to get their butt out of their seats by having a cocktail style reception, offer dessert instead of wedding cake and for god sakes, tell them what the heck they're eating!
